Section 1 General


101. Application


1. These Rules apply to design, construction, installation and survey for Fixed Offshore Structures classed with the Society or intended to be classed under the Society. Fixed Offshore Structures (hereafter referred to as "structure" in these Rules) as used herein means structure supported by and fixed to the sea floor of specific site of the installation.


2. For structures fixed to the sea floor with different type from those specified in this Rules, the de- sign, fabrication, installation and examination is are to be in accordance with the discretion of the Society.


3. For floating offshore production units which are provided with facilities processing, storing and/or offloading crude oil and gas produced from subsea well, Guidance for Floating Offshore

Production Units is

to be applied.


102. General


1. The design is to be based on foundation and long term environmental conditions at a particular in- stallation site where it is intended to remain.


2. The sea floor attachment afforded to the platform may be obtained by pilings, direct bearing, moor- ing lines, anchors, etc.


3. The site condition reports are to be submitted. Specific data for an offshore structure employed by the designer meets the appropriate requirements of the Rules. The data are to include the following. However, where appropriate, data established for a previous installation in the vicinity of the in- stallation proposed for classification may be utilized if acceptable in the opinion of the Society.

(1) Environmental conditions of waves, winds, currents, tides, water depth, air and sea temperatures and ice

(2) Seabed topography, stability, and pertinent geotechnical data

(3) Seismic conditions


103. Equivalency

Alternative offshore construction, transportation, offloading, installations or offshore structure, equip- ment arrangement and scantlings will be accepted by the Society, provided that the Society is sat- isfied that such construction, equipment, arrangement and scantlings are equivalent to those required in this Rules.
